ASCs meet extensive state and federal requirements and are reviewed regularly to ensure safety and quality. A growing body of research demonstrates exceptional outcomes in surgery centers. In fact, ASC patients are less likely to be admitted to the hospital for post-surgery complications.

As America’s baby boomers age, there is increasing demand for the services that surgery centers provide. More than 49 million people, or 15% of the U.S. population, are now 65 or older. The share of Americans 65 and older will grow to 24% of the overall population by 2060.

Like any industry, ASCs have seen their ups and downs. For example in Texas, a state that has always been a national leader in number of ASCs per state, in Q4 2016 there were 356 Medicare-certified ASCs compared to 364 in Q4 2011. But seeing the new additions quarter over quarter the past several years has made me more excited than ever! As of our Q4 2021 Dataset release, Texas now has 458 Medicare-certified ASCs with 16 added to this list in 2021.
